Maximum applied load on the specimen can be 10KN and test could be carried out at maximum temperature. Machine has leaver loading mechanism for load applications and measure extension up to 55% of gauge length of specimen. All components were design and fabricated separately and then assembled. This article contains the use of kaolin in the furnace of the machine. Kaolin is a clay mineral material, part of a group of industrial minerals with the chemical composition Al2Si2O5(OH)4 linked through oxygen atoms to one octahedral sheet of alumina (AlO6) octahedral. Kaolin has a melting temperature about 1850oc. That is why it can be use as a refractory material in the furnace of creep testing machine.\r\n\r\nThe machine was able to successfully perform tensile creep test for different materials at various temperature according to ASTM standard.\r\nINTRODUCTION \r\nCREEP\r\nCreep is a time dependent slow deformation of materials under constant stress. The phenomenon usually occurs at stress (less than yield strength) and temperature values and rate of deformation of material is dependent on stress value, material properties, time and temperature. The engineering components in oil refineries and chemical industries and power plants normally operate at temperature around 500oc. The operative temperature of nuclear power plants and space rockets are even higher temperature around 1000oc. Creep in system components may have catastrophic consequences; therefore by using a tensile method, we are capable of determining the condition and development of creep at any early and non-critical stage.\r\n\r\nCreep in any material held in three stages:-\r\n\r\n \tPRIMARY CREEP:-In this stage the creep starts at a rapid rate and slows with time.\r\n \tSECONDARY CREEP:-In this stage the creep rate has a relatively uniform rate.\r\n \tTERTIARY CREEP:-It has an accelerated creep rate and terminates when the material breaks or ruptures. It is associated with both necking and formation of grain boundary voids.\r\n\r\nCREEP TESTING MACHINE\r\nKaolin\r\nMaterial Kaolin is a clay mineral material, part of a group of industrial minerals with the chemical composition Al2Si2O5(OH)4 linked through oxygen atoms to one octahedral sheet of diameter 0.2-12 \u03bcm Alumina (AlO6) octahedral. Kaolin has a melting temperature about 1850oc. It is white, grayish-white, or slightly colored.\r\nSources of Kaolin \r\nKaolin and the clay mineral kaolin are natural components of the soil and occur widely in ambient air as floating dust. Kaolin formation occurs in three ways:\r\n\r\n\u2022 Crumbling and transformation of rocks due to the effects of climatic factors (Zettlitz type).\r\n\r\n\u2022 Transformation of rocks due to hydrothermal effects (Cornwall type).\r\n\r\nApplications of Kaolin\r\n\r\n \tRubber Manufacturing: kaolin is added in rubber as filler. It provides strength, abrasive resistance, and rigidity to both natural and synthetic rubbers.\r\n \tCeramics: Kaolin is used in ceramic white ware products, insulators, and refractory (Smoot, this Volume). In white wares, kaolin aids accurate control of molding properties, and adds dry and fired strength, dimensional stability, and a smooth surface finish to the ware.\r\n \tPlastics: The addition of kaolin to thermosetting and thermoplastic mixes gives smoother surfaces, a more attractive finish, good dimensional stability, and high resistance to chemical attack.\r\n\r\nCOMPONENTS OF MACHINE\r\n\r\nDial Indicator \r\n\r\nA dial indicator will be used to measure the elongation of the sample. A dial indicator with measurement sensitivity of 0.001 mm was selected as strain recording device.\r\n\r\nCompound Lever Arm \r\n\r\nOf the three loading concepts considered, the compound lever arm was chosen for its relative simplicity and large mechanical advantage because it is used to hold the weight which applies load on the specimen. A mechanical advantage of twenty gives a force of 4,500 N with a 225N weight.\r\n\r\n Shoulder Linkage \r\n\r\nThe sample of material to be tested for its creep properties is mounted axially to the load using a shoulder coupling. The bending strain must be less than 10% of the axial strain. Having the interface between the upper and lower heads and their corresponding linkages as a smooth spherical surface minimizes the non-axial loading of the sample.\r\n\r\nHeating Element \r\n\r\nThe furnace has an embedded heating element. It is controlled using pulse-width modulation by way of the imbedded microcontroller. The required temperature is 800 \u00b0c, while the design temperature is 1000 \u00b0c.\r\n\r\nWeights \r\n\r\nDead weights are used to apply a constant load on the sample and one end of lever is connected with the dead weights. These dead weights are placed in a weight holder which is connected with the one end of lever. Dead weights are cylindrical in shape and different sizes and weights of 1,2,3,5 and 10KN.\r\n\r\nFurnace \r\n\r\nKaolin is selected as lining materials for the design of the furnace of the machine. The choice of the kaolin was influenced by low cost considerations, local availability, and high refractory properties, and low thermal conductivity.\r\n\r\nMATERIAL SELECTION\r\n\r\nMaterial selection is an important step in this process if designing any physical system. The main goal of material selection is to minimize cost while meeting product performance goals. Systematic selection of the best material for a given application begins with properties and cost of candidate material. The materials for the components are selected depending upon the type of force or stress acting on the component. Mild Steel is taken as the best suited material for the\r\nFABRICATION PROCEDURE\r\nThe fabrication of the specimen includes the following steps as follows:-\r\n\r\n \tThe casing for the heating chamber is first positioned and then plastered using a mixture of kaolin and water which serves as binder in accordance with Alaneme et al.\r\n \tGrooves are created around the lined refractory bricks for the housing of the heating elements. The heating element is passed through the grooves to allow for efficient and even heat generation.\r\n \tThe shoulder linkages, for the mounting of the specimens for testing were then positioned within the chamber with the bottom end bolted firmly at the base of the heating chamber (fixed end) and the top portion of the gripping system connected to the movable load lever arm with the help of a hinge.\r\n \tThe electrical connection to the heating element was done and linked to digital thermometer which is placed in a steel box casing by the side of the heating chamber.\r\n \tThe heating chamber (furnace) is powered through an industrial switch linked to an AC power source. In this process, a gas is blown at high speed from a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed on the surface of metal due to gas from the nozzle to the surface that is to be cut, turning some of that gas to profile. Here design of various components required for gas cutting machine is made &amp; calculations are interpreted in the paper.\r\nINTRODUCTION \r\nAn electromagnetic sheet metal profile gas cutting machine is an important instrument in a workshop. Actually many metal cutting operations in workshop needs gas cutting. This machine is aimed to reduce the efforts of workers required for gas cutting operations and also minimize the time required for operation. This project aimed to develop a gas cutting machine for sheet metal profiles in small workshops\/industries within a reasonable cost than the machines which are available in the market.\r\nPROBLEM STATEMENT \r\nIn sheet metal industry, it is required to cut different profiles with desired shapes. Previously this was done manually by the worker which had following drawbacks.\r\n\r\n \tThe process was time consuming which lead to pending of the work.\r\n \tDue to repetition of the work, the process caused boredom and fatigue to the worker.\r\n \tIt was difficult to apply consistent flow of gas torch in cycle manually.\r\n \tCost of automatic profile cutting machines is more .\r\n \tMachines of this type having heavy weight.\r\n\r\nTo eliminate above limitation of manual testing it was necessary to develop mechanism.\r\nOBJECTIVES\r\nThis project was developed to study about the profile gas cutting machine in smooth cutting using gas cutting process .The main purposes of this project are listed below\r\n\r\n \tTo study about the influence of profile gas Cutting Parameters on Mild Steel.\r\n \tTo study about the best combination of solution using gas cutting, motor and tracer, template, nozzle torch.\r\n \tTo reduce time required to generate the profile.\r\n \tTo achieve required surface finish.\r\n\r\nSCOPE OF STUDY\r\nThe main requirement of machine is to use in small scale workshop and for semi-skilled worker. It also helps to reduce risk of injury to worker.\r\n\r\n \tThis project focuses on the optimization of cutting parameters of profile gas cutting.\r\n \tThe material used to cut was mild Steel of specification AISI 1018.\r\n\r\nPRINCIPLE OF GAS CUTTING \r\nIn gas cutting, the metal is first preheated with the oxy fuel flame up to the ignition temperature. When the necessary temperature is obtained, then oxygen is turned on, and the stream of pure oxygen is applied against the heated metal. This ignites the iron or steel and starts the cut. When iron or steel is heated to a temperature of 1600\u00ba F, it will burn if brought into contact with oxygen. The fuel flow is controlled by using the torch fuel valve and preheat oxygen flow is governed by the valve on the side of the cutting attachment. The cutting-oxygen jet is controlled by pressure on the lever mounted on top of the attachment. Oxygen to both the preheat oxygen valve and the cutting oxygen lever valve is supplied through the torch oxygen valve which is opened wide during cutting operations.\r\nWORKING\r\nProfile gas cutting machine is a precision, quality constructed, hard-working gas shape cutter build for high production. It is found that thickness of sheet to be cut increases, pressure of oxygen gas increases almost linearly, while the pressure of LPG gas remains the same. It is also found that surface finish of manufactured profile is achieved .\r\nCONCLUSIONS\r\nIn past decades man is constantly trying to gain more and more comfortness. Man attempt has been made to develop more and more modified technique with increasing the aesthetic and economic concern. Hence there is always more scope towards whatever he might has done and also having the experience of the presently manufactured things. But being the Engineers and having the ability to think and plan. In order to overcome the problems an automatic wheel chair cum bed having adequate features need to be designed. The automatic wheel chair cum bed comprises of a wheel chair which can be converted into a complete bed. Automatic wheel chair cum bed can be controlled by joystick, remote control etc.\r\nA motorized wheel chair or electric-powered wheel chair is a wheel chair that is propelled by means of an electric motor rather than manual power. Motorized wheel chairs are useful for those who are not able to impel a manual wheel chair or who may need to employ a wheel chair for distances or over terrain in a manual wheel chair. They may also be used not just by people with conventional mobility impairments, but also by people with cardiovascular and fatigue based conditions. Electric wheel chairs have enhanced the quality of life for many people with physical disabilities through the mobility they afford The selection of power chair will rely on many factors; including the kind of surface setting the chair will be driven over, the need to settle thresholds and curbs, and clearance widths in accustomed environment. This failure begins with a small crack. The initial crack is so minute that it cannot be detected by the naked eye and is even quite difficult to locate in a magniflux or x-ray inspection. The crack will develop at a point of discontinuity in the material such as a change in cross section, a keyway, a hole or a notch. Less obvious points at which fatigue failure are likely to begin are inspection or stamp marks, internal cracks or even irregularities caused by machining. Once a crack is initiated the stress concentration effect becomes greater and the crack progresses more rapidly. A spring is defined as an elastic body, whose function is to distort when loaded and to recover its original shape when the load is removed. Leaf springs absorb the vehicle vibrations, shocks and bump loads (induced due to road irregularities) by means of spring deflections, so that the potential energy is stored in the leaf spring and then relieved slowly. Ability to store and absorb more amount of strain energy ensures the comfortable suspension system. The spring is mounted on the axle of the vehicle. The entire vehicle load rests on the leaf spring. The front end of the spring is connected to the frame with a simple pin joint, while the rear end of the spring is connected with a shackle. Shackle is the flexible link which connects between leaf spring rear eye and frame.\r\nObjectives: \r\nMain aim of this project work is to design and fabrication of Fatigue Testing Machine which is capable of testing the fatigue life of various samples of fabricated composite leaf springs for Automobile application. Also with the result of each test carried out with this machine, the fatigue life of various fiber reinforced composite materials can be obtained and fatigue failure be guarded against in optimum manner.\r\n\r\n \tTo design the fatigue tester and it\u2019s components\r\n \tTo fabricate the fatigue testing machine\r\n \tTo test the fatigue strength of the composite leaf springs\r\n \tAnalysis on the fabricated leaf spring.\r\n\r\nMethodology: \r\nThe fatigue testing machine consists of the following components:\r\n\r\n \tA HP electric motor\r\n \tFlange, connecting rods.\r\n \tDead weight\r\n \tPlummer blocks\r\n \tDigital counter\r\n \tVariable speed control\r\n \tSpecimen ( leaf spring)\r\n \tBearing\r\n\r\nFlange and connecting rods\r\n\r\n These are used to have rotary motion and convert it to vertical straight-line motion. So that stroke of required dimension can be achieved. For this an eccentric hole is made on the flange, on which by some manufacturing processes (welding, threading, drilling) connecting rod fixed. The length of eccentricity, length of the connecting rod influences the stroke length. So its important to have much care about the design parameters of these things. \r\n\r\nBearing: \r\n\r\nTo allow free motion of connecting rod without any interruption, while achieving the strokes on leaf spring. \r\n\r\nPlummer block: \r\n\r\nIn order to balance the rotating masses of high weight capacity by absorbing the vibrations induced during the stroke operation. The particular bearing used in this project is the single, row, deep; groove bearing that can take both radial load and some thrust load. The bearing is shouldered in a housing made of cast iron to secure adequate support for the bearing and resist the maximum thrust load. \r\n\r\nDigital counter: \r\n\r\nThese are more important for the ease of analysis. One of these is used to display the number of cycles completed and other is to stress induced for every cycle. These readings make the working of machine much pr\u00e9cised. \r\n\r\nVariable speed control\r\n\r\n Speed of the motor is adjusted by the belt and pulley arrangement. As per the need, it can be adjusted with the rearrangement of the belt with the pulleys. But speed of the motor is predefined with the diameter of pulleys, this is where our permission in order to change the speed gets completed. \r\nWorking: \r\nThe supply to the machine is turned OFF and the spring load is reduced to zero. Then the bolts in the clamping mechanism are loosened and the specimen is loaded in to it. The bolts are then tightened to ensure that the specimen does not loosen during the operation of the machine. The required load is set on the spring load by adjusting the nut below the spring load mechanism and the supply is turned ON. The digital counter is reset to zero and the machine is turned ON. After a certain period of time the specimen will fail and the digital counter will stop, then the machine is turned OFF. And the failed specimen is removed and a new specimen is loaded and the test is repeated for different values of spring load.\r\n\r\nfatigue testing machine\r\nConclusions: \r\nWhen fatigue stress is induced on a material due to the action of force reversing and fluctuating, a failure known as fatigue failure takes place. The study and test conducted so far shows that fatigue failure cannot be predicted accurately since material failure under fatigue are affected not by just reversal loading alone but also the number of revolution (cycle per minute) and fluctuating stress and other factors such as temperature, atmospheric condition, both internal and external defect on material subjected under fatigue stress. Such defect includes notch, inclusion, stress concentration and non-homogeneity.\r\n Scope for future work: \r\nThe project that is seen today is a conceptual setup. This setup was to test the fatigue life of composite leaf springs, on which many researches and developments are going on. The future scope of this project is seen to be very vast among which It can be modified for various testing parameters. Seed, as it comes from the field, contains various contaminants like weed seeds, other crop seeds, and such inert material as stems, leaves, broken seed, and dirt. These contaminants must be removed, and the clean seed properly handled and stored to provide a high quality planting seed that will increase farm production and supply uniform raw material for industry. The procedures used to meet present quality standards result in a loss of up to 50 percent of the good seed even though many special machines and techniques are used for seed cleaning and handling .\r\nPortable Paddy Cleaning Machine is designed to remove foreign materials and impurities such as sand particles, stones, paddy straws and foreign seeds from paddy. This machine provides farmers an alternative replacement of current conventional method should the farmers want to extract the paddy seed in small scale amount . Currently, they only use a traditional winnow technique as to obtain the seeds to be used next season or before processing paddies to become rice.The performance of this machine is very efficient where the percentage of clean paddy is observed to be at 95%. It helps farmers improvise their traditional method, reduces purchasing cost of paddy seed and utilizes the cleaning process at low cost and less maintenance .\r\nGenerally, the hand threshing and the traditional handling used in most developing countries case a larger percentage of foreign matter with the paddy. Thus, more cleaning is required.At this point a rice mill cleaner removes any remaining foreign material that could damage the milling machinery and eliminates foreign material from the milled rice .\u00a0\r\nObjectives:\r\nThe paddy cleaning machines currently available in the market\/industries are bulky. The existing ones are designed for a higher capacity which makes them more expensive. Thus, it is not suitable to purchase the existing paddy cleaning machine to perform simple cleaning operation. Moreover, these machines are heavy and take up a lot of space. In addition, the current paddy cleaning machines are not portable. In order to overcome the problems associated with the current paddy cleaning machine there is a need which is inexpensive, compact, portable and versatile. Our proposed paddy cleaning machine is capable of removing dust, sticks, stones, and other impurities.\r\n\r\nThe paddy is cleaned to:\r\n1. Reduce requirements for drying cost.\r\n2. Remove materials that could cause paddy deterioration during shortage.\r\n3. Remove materials that could damage the conveying and milling machinery.\r\n4. Remove materials that cause a reduction in the grade.\r\n5. Reduce storage requirements.\r\n\r\nDesign and Fabrication Of Paddy Cleaner - Mechanical Project\r\nResults and conclusions: \r\nManual harvest is also a slow and painstaking process. Unless you have a lot of money, so that you can afford to hire a really big army of paddy cleaners. Cleaningis a very poorly paid job generally made by temporary labor. They should also be trained to do the job faster and identify quickly. Today it can also be quite difficult to find enough harvest workers. And with manual cleaning you may also have the issue with harvest workers simply not showing up when you need them and other employee issues. The technology used in the machines that do mechanical cleaning has come a long way since it was first introduced some decades ago. Today\u2019s cleaners can be very sophisticated and gentle. In the longer run, picking by machine mostly turns out cheaper than manual cleaning releasing funds for other quality improvements in the cellar. A mechanical cleaner is much faster than manual cleaners. Some say one machine does the same work as 20 harvest workers. A mechanical cleaner is typically done in a much shorter time span than a manual cleaner. If, for example, bad weather is looming then the machine cleaner can quickly harvest the paddy, before the storm, something that might take workers days to do. The cleaner can also be sent out in the middle of the night to harvest. This can be a great advantage in hotter climates.
