In our project the work abrasive belt is used to grinding the material. The abrasive belt is rotated by the single phase induction motor. Hence our project namely abrasive belt grinder is a Special type of Machine. According to the type of material to be grind, the grinding tool can be changed.\r\nThis project gives details of grinding various shapes and sizes of components. This machine can be widely applied in almost all type of industries. By varying the pulley sizes I can get a high end speed of over 10,000 rpm if needed. The only change I would make is to have a totally enclosed motor to keep out the grit.\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nOur project is design and fabrication of Multi Use abrasive belt Grinder. It is used to grind the machining surfaces to super Finish and accuracy. It can be used as an external Grinder by fixing the belt grinder attachment on the conveyor roller. The principle parts of this attachment are main body, motor with pulley, bearings, rope pulley and conveyor abrasive belt etc.\r\n\r\n grinding machine\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\nThe abrasive belt is used to grind the material. This abrasive belt is rotated by the single phase induction motor. In our project consist of end bearings with bearing cap, roller wheel, shaft, single phase induction motor and abrasive belt. This whole arrangement is fixed on the frame structure where the component rests.\r\nThe roller wheel is mounted on the two end bearings with bearing cap by suitable arrangement. There are two roller wheel is used in our project to rotate the abrasive belt. One side of the roller wheel shaft, one v-pulley is coupled by the suitable arrangement. The single phase induction motor with V-pulley arrangement is used to rotate the abrasive belt through the belt drive mechanism.\r\nBelt grinding is an abrasive machining process used on metals and other materials. It is typically used as a finishing process in industry. A belt, coated in abrasive material, is run over the surface to be processed in order to remove material.\r\nAPPLICATIONS\r\nBelt grinding is a versatile process suitable for all kinds of different applications. There are three different applications of the belt grinding technology:\r\n1. Finishing: surface roughness, removal of micro burrs, cosmetic finishes, polishing\r\n2. Deburring: radiusing, burr removal, edge breaking\r\n3. Stock removal: high stock removal, cleaning (e.g. of corrosion), eliminating mill or tool marks, dimensioning\r\nADVANTAGES:\r\n\r\n \tThe machine is compact and rigid in size.\r\n \tMaintenance is less.\r\n \tIt can be used on any place of small grinding application\r\n \tBy varying the pulley diameter the speed of the abrasive belt to be changed.\r\n\r\nDISADVANTAGES :\r\n\r\n \tThe abrasive belt should be changeable one for different material. This process takes more time.\r\n\r\nAPPLICATIONS\r\n\r\n \tGrinding outside the job in any size of body can be done.\r\n \tAs the feed is given automatic, 0.8 micron finish may be achieved.\r\n \tBy changing the grades of abrasive belt grinding it can be used to grind the carbon steel, Alloy steel and stainless steel etc.\r\n\r\nCONCLUSION\r\nGrinding has traditionally been associated with small rates of material removal and finishing operations. However, grinding can also be used for large-scale metal removal operations similar to milling, shaping, and planing. In creep-feed grinding, the depth of cut d is as much as 6mm, and the workpiece speed is low. The wheels are mostly softer grade resin bonded with open structure to keep temperatures low. As it is manual process, the chance for error is high moreover the accuracy is less, which leads to more tolerance. since in minute cutting operation, it is difficult to obtain the desired output. Particularly for cutting shapes, the conventional cutting method seems to more tedious. Here in our project, we suggest a new idea to overcome the difficulties in the conventional cutting.\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nIn Our project \u201dDESIGN AND FABRICATION OF SEMI-AUTOMATIC CIRCULAR PATH GAS CUTTING\u201d suggest a new method for circular path operation in cutting process.. An Oxy-Acetylene outfit is portable, inexpensive and versatile. By using the proper tips, almost any metal can be cut using the Oxy-Acetylene process. Acetylene is a gas that is manufactured by mixing Calcium Carbide with water. Acetylene, when burned alone, can produce a flame temperature of about 4000 deg. F. With the addition of Oxygen a flame temperature in excess of 6000 deg. F. can be achieved, making Acetylene ideal for welding and cutting. Today most welding is accomplished by arc welding, and gas is used predominately for cutting purposes. Oxy-Acetylene torch cutting relies on the combustion of fuel gases, usually Oxygen and Acetylene, to heat metals at the cutting point. Torch cutting is a quick and inexpensive solution to the problem of field cutting metals.\r\nGAS CUTTING\r\nThe common methods used in cutting metal are oxy gas flame cutting, air carbon-arc cutting, and plasma-arc cutting. The method used depends on the type of metal to be cut and the availability of equipment. As a Steelworker, oxy gas or air carbon-arc equipment is the most\r\ncommon type of equipment available for your use.\r\nThe oxy gas cutting torch has many uses in steel- work. At most naval activities, the Steelworker finds the cutting torch an excellent tool for cutting ferrous metals. This versatile tool is used for operations, such as beveling plate, cutting and beveling pipe, piercing holes in steel plate, and cutting wire rope.\r\nWhen using the oxy gas cutting process, you heat a spot on the metal to the kindling or ignition temperature (between 1400\u00b0F and 1600\u00b0F for steels). The term for this oxy gas flame is the PREHEATING FLAME. Next, you direct a jet of pure oxygen at the heated metal by\r\npressing a lever on the cutting torch. The oxygen causes a chemical reaction known as OXIDATION to take place rapidly. When oxidation occurs rapidly, it is called COMBUSTION or BURNING. An important item is the spark igniter that is used to light the torch (fig. 4-2, view A). Another item you use is an apparatus wrench. It is similar in design to the one shown in figure 4-2, view B. The apparatus wrench is sometimes called a gang wrench because it fits all the connections on the cutting rig. Along with motor powered grass cutter, electric grass cutters are also hazardous and cannot be easily used by all. Also, if the electric grass cutter is corded, mowing could prove to be problematic and dangerous. The prototype will also be will be charged from sun by using solar panels.\r\nWhat is Solar Energy?\r\nSolar energy is radiant energy that is produced by sun. Every day the sun radiates, or sends out, an enormous amount of energy. The sun radiates more energy in one second than people have used since the beginning of time!\r\nWhere does the energy come from that constantly is being radiated from the sun? It comes from within the sun itself. Like other stars, the sun is a big ball of gases- mostly hydrogen and helium atoms. The system consists of a flexible fabric envelope or cushion, designed to inflate rapidly during an automobile collision. Its purpose is to cushion occupants during a crash and provide protection to their bodies when they strike interior objects such as the steering wheel or a window etc. Thus it lowers the number of injuries by reducing the force exerted by steering wheel, windows and the dashboard at any point on the body. Continuing research and developments are going on in its module design, combustible material, air bag fabric design and material, coating etc. in making this life saving safety device further efficient. However, success of any safety restraint device depends on its correct implementation and certain safety rules to be followed.\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nFor many years, the trusty seat belt provided the sole form of passive restraint in our cars. Seat belts have been proven to be effective in saving lives and preventing or lessening injuries in automobile accidents.. The first passive restraints were modifications of seat belts themselves; the belts were coordinated with operations of opening the car doors and starting the automobile, which caused belts built into tracks in the doors to wrap around the driver or passenger when the seat was occupied. Concurrently, the airbag was devised as a secondary form of passive restraint during impact.\r\nAir Bags have been under development for many years. They were initially used and designed to be used in fighter planes during world war second. In the 1980\u2019s the first commercial air bags appeared in automobiles. Since 1988, all new cars have been required to have air bags on both driver and passenger sides. To date, Statistics show that air bags reduce the risk of dying in a direct frontal crash by 30 percent. Other than steering Wheel mounted or Dash board mounted bags, there are seat-mounted and door mounted side air-bags. Air bags were invented as the result of serious government discussions and industry research and tests.\r\nMAIN PARTS\r\nThe air bag system consists of three basic parts- an air bag module, crash sensor and a diagnosis unit. Some systems have ON\/OFF switch to deactivate air bag system.\r\nAIRBAG MODULE \r\nThe air bag module fig no:3.1 contains both an inflator unit and the lightweight fabric air bag. The driver air bag module is located in the steering wheel hub, and the passenger air bag module is located in the instrument panel. The collision, be it frontal or lateral, activates an array of sensors in the vehicle, including accelerometers, impact sensors, side pressure sensors, brake pressure sensors, and seat occupancy sensors. All these sensors are in intimate connection with the ACU (Airbag Control Unit). The unit decides if and how to deploy the airbags. When the ACU detects that the deployment threshold has been reached, it initiates the inflation stage. As the compressed air system would have been impractical and quite inefficient, engineers came up with an idea quite similar to the working principle of the solid rocket booster.\r\nEach airbag incorporates a pyrotechnic device, known as an initiator or electric match, consisting of an electrical conductor cocooned in combustible material. A current pulse heats up the conductor, which in turn ignites the combustible material. This igniter triggers the chemical reaction that actually fills the nylon fabric airbag with gas. The large volume of gas then forces the airbag out of the steering wheel and\/or dashboard at a speed of up to 200 mph or 322 mph, the whole process taking about 0.04 seconds. Considering that the blink of an eye is approximated at 0.2 seconds, one could say it's quite a speedy process The last stage of the airbag process is the deflation, which occurs almost immediately after the inflation is completed. The gas escapes through special vents. They also prevent the occupants from suffering major impact injuries. Another effect of the deflation is the release of dust-like particles, mostly cornstarch and talcum powder that are used to lubricate the airbag. Small amount of Sodium hydroxide may initially be present. This chemical can cause minor irritation to the eyes and\/or open wounds; however, with exposure to air, it quickly turns into Sodium bicarbonate (common baking soda). Depending on the type of air bag system, potassium chloride (a table salt substitute) may also be present. Initially, the chemicals used in airbags were a major health concern, but present systems will only produce a mild irritation of the throat and eyes for most people, as an outcome of dust released. Generally, these minor irritations continue up to the time occupant remains in the vehicle with the windows closed and no ventilation. The exhaust gas energy availability and the impact of the absorption refrigeration system on engine performance, exhaust emissions, and power economy are evaluated. A production automotive engine was tested in a bench test dynamometer, with the absorption refrigeration system adapted to the exhaust pipe. The engine was tested for 25%, 50%, 75% and wide-open throttle valve. The refrigerator reached a steady state temperature between 4 and 13 degree centigrade about 3 hours after system start up, depending on engine throttle valve opening. The calculated exhaust gas energy availability suggests the cooling capacity can be highly improved for a dedicated system. Exhaust hydrocarbon emissions were higher when the refrigeration system was installed in the engine exhaust, but carbon monoxide emissions were reduced, while carbon dioxide concentration remained practically unaltered.\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nEnergy efficiency has been a major topic of discussions on natural resources preservation and costs reduction. Based on estimates of energy resources reduction at medium and long terms, it is vital to develop more efficient processes from energy and exergy standpoints. Environment preservation must also be considered through energy optimization studies. An important point to mention absorption refrigeration systems is the continuing substitution of chlorinated fluorocarbons (CFCs) by alternative refrigerants, according to the Montreal Protocol, signed in 1987 by 46 countries and revised in 1990 to protect the ozone layer. Other motivating factors are the continuous optimization of the performance of internal combustion engines and the increasing utilization of air conditioning in vehicles, as it reaches the\r\nstatus of essential need for modern life. Internal combustion engines are potential energy sources for absorption refrigeration systems, as about one third of the energy availability in the combustion process is wasted through the exhaust gas. Thus, use of the exhaust gas in an\r\nabsorption refrigeration system can increase the overall system efficiency.\r\nThis work has as an objective the study of the feasibility and potential of using the internal combustion engine exhaust gas as energy source for an absorption refrigeration system. For this purpose was performed an experimental study on a commercial 215-l refrigerator. The\r\nimpact of the absorption refrigeration system on engine power output and exhaust emissions is analyzed, in order to know how this system influences the operation of an internal combustion engine.\r\nOBJECTIVE\r\nThe demand for fossil fuels is on the rise and the threats possessed by the pollutants cannot be neglected. And so is the requirement for energy efficient machines and this topic deals with the usage of \u201ewasteful\u201f energy from vehicular exhaust e missions for refrigeration or air\r\nconditioning purpose.\r\nAir conditioning is also becoming a necessity in our society. Considering this, usage of different methods like absorption refrigeration systems, adsorption systems, solar systems, can contribute to the overall efficiency of vehicles.\r\nThe topic also deals with an experiment related to a vehicle integrated with absorption refrigeration system. Its results and the scopes are also discussed in the topic.\r\n\r\nabsorption refrigeration system\r\n\r\nFig. 1 shows a schematic of the basic ammonia \u2013 water absorption refrigeration cycle. High pressure ammonia vapor enters the condenser, where it transfers heat to the neighborhood. Liquid ammonia leaves the condenser and passes through an expansion valve, reaching the evaporator pressure. The refrigerant then enters the evaporator, where it receives heat from the cold source, turning into low pressure vapor. In the sequence, ammonia vapor enters the absorber, where a weak solution of water and low concentration ammonia absorbs the refrigerant and, at the same time, transfers heat to the neighborhood. The solution has now a high ammonia concentration, and is pumped to the vapor generator, where it receives heat from an external source. The ammonia in the solution then evaporates, separating from water and flowing to the condenser to start a new cycle. A weak water \u2013 ammonia solution leaves the vapor generator and enters the absorber to absorb ammonia vapor from the evaporator. A heat exchanger between the absorber and the vapor generator transfers heat from the weak solution leaving the vapor generator to the high ammonia concentration solution going into the vapor generator.\r\nCONCLUSION\r\n\r\n \tThe engine exhaust gas was confirmed as a potential power source for absorption refrigeration systems.\r\n \tThe domestic absorption refrigerator tested showed low coefficient of performance and did not provide the cooling capacity needed for automotive application. However, a dedicated absorption refrigeration system may be able to take advantage of the exhaust gas power availability and provide the cooling capacity required for automotive air conditioning.\r\n \tIntroduction of the absorption refrigeration system in the engine exhaust system did not cause significant pressure drop in the exhaust flow, as the engine output power was increased and specific fuel consumption was decreased with removal of other exhaust system components.\r\n \tOverall, carbon monoxide emission was decreased when the absorption refrigerator was installed in the exhaust gas, while hydrocarbon emissions showed an increase.
