All fixed-volume pump circuits require a relief valve to protect the system from excess pressure. Fixed-volume pumps must move fluid when they turn. When a pump unloads through an open-center circuit or actuators are in motion, fluid movement is not a\r\nproblem. A relief valve is essential when the actuators stall with the directional valve still in shifted position.\r\n\r\nA relief valve is similar to a fuse in an electrical system. When circuit amperage stays below the fuse amperage, all is well. When circuit amperage tries to exceed fuse amperage, the fuse blows and disables the circuit. Both devices protect the system from excess pressure\/current by keeping it below a preset level. The difference is that when an electrical fuse blows, it must be reset or replaced by maintenance personnel before the machine cycles again. This requirement alerts electrician\u2019s about a possible problem before restarting the machine. Without the protection of a fuse, the electrical circuit would finally overheat and start a fire.\r\n\r\nSimilarly, in a hydraulic circuit, a relief valve opens and bypasses fluid when pressure exceeds its setting. The valve then closes again when pressure falls. This means that a relief valve can bypass fluid anytime, or all the time, without intervention by maintenance. Many fixed-volume pump circuits depend on this bypassing capability during the cycle, and some even bypass fluid during idle time. A well-designed\r\ncircuit never bypasses fluid unless there is a malfunction, such as a limit switch not closing or an operator over-riding the controls. This eliminates most overheating problems and saves energy.\r\nThere are two different designs of relief valves in use: direct-acting and pilot-operated. Both types have advantages and work better in certain applications.\r\n\r\n relief Valve\r\nSimple Pressure-Relief Valve\r\nThe most widely used type of pressure control valve is the pressure-relief valve because it is found in practically every hydraulic system. Schematic diagram of simple relief valve is shown in Fig. 1.1 and three-dimensional view is shown in Fig. 1.2. It is normally a closed valve whose function is to limit the pressure to a specified maximum value by diverting pump flow back to the tank. A poppet is held seated\r\ninside the valve by a heavy spring. When the system pressure reaches a high enough value, the poppet is forced off its seat. This permits flow through the outlet to the tank as long as this high pressure level is maintained. Note the external adjusting screw, which varies spring force and, thus, the pressure at which the valve begins to open (cracking pressure)(Fig. 1.3).\r\nIt should be noted that the poppet must open sufficiently to allow full pump flow. The pressure that exists at full pump flow can be substantially greater than cracking pressure. The pressure at full pump flow is the pressure level that is specified when referring to the pressure setting of the valve. It is the maximum pressure level permitted by the relief valve.\r\n\r\nIf the hydraulic system does not accept any flow, then all the pump flow must return to the tank via the relief valve. The pressure-relief valve provides protection against any overloads experienced by the actuators in the hydraulic system. Of course, a relief valve is not needed if a pressure-compensated vane pump is used. Obviously one important function of a pressure-relief valve is to limit the force or torque produced by hydraulic cylinders or motors.\r\nAdvantages Of Relief Valve :\u00a0\r\nThe main advantage of direct-acting relief valves over pilot-operated relief valves is that they respond very rapidly to pressure buildup. One of the improvements done in gear box is auto changing. In our project a prototype of this gearbox for auto changing for gears is done with the help of a governor mechanism. The assembly consists of a set of gears connected to the motor through the governor. The governor is attached to the driver shaft. At initial position there will be no engagement of gears for power transmission. When the speed begins to increase in the driver shaft due to presence of the governor the initial height reduces and the shaft moves and engages with the first gear and power is transmitted to the driven shaft. As the speed further increase in speed will cause the second gear to engage. And vice versa when the speed reduces and the driver shaft will return to the initial position with the help of the spring. The design procedures, drawings for the above mentioned project is given below.\r\nINTRODUCTION\r\nA progressive gearbox is a gearbox which changes the gear according to speed variation. This movement for the gears based on speed is done with the help of governor. Its main function is to shift the gears in forward as speed increases and vice versa when the speed decreases. The governor plays vital role in changing of gears. By using a prime mover (Motor) and governor mechanism the forward and reverse motion of driving shaft is achieved.\r\nWORKING PRINCIPLE\r\nThe working of this gearbox is same as ordinary gearbox except for the gear shifting automatically as the speed increases. As initial in rest position no gears will be engaged and hence no power transmission for the driving to the driven wheel is obtained.\r\nThen when the driving shaft begins to rotate due to the centrifugal force the governor begins to expand. Since the governor is attached to the driving shaft the sliding shaft also slides towards the governor.\r\nAs the driving shaft attains a particular speed the first set of gears will begin to engage and power is transmitted to the driven shaft.\r\nEven further improvement in speed ill cause the 2nd set of gears to engage. Then as the speed reduces due to the spring force the sliding shaft will move away from the governor. The designing and fabrication of this portable jib crane uses application of mechanics of solids ,manufacturing technology and various subjects of mechanical engineering.\r\nTYPES OF JIB CRANES\r\nJib crane consists of an inclined member supported by a rope or any other type of structural member attached to a vertical mast or frame. Load is usually suspended from the outer end of this inclined mast. The outreach of the jib may be fixed or variable. The cranes as a whole may be either, fixed or moveable. Various sub-classifications of these cranes are possible.\r\nLifting capacity of such cranes may vary from 1\/2 ton to 200 ton and outreach from a few meter to 50 meter. Such cranes find various applications in port area, construction site, and other outdoor works.\r\nFor handling general cargo, lifting capacities are usually 1.5 ton to 5 ton with maximum outreach of 30 meter. Jib Cranes provided with grabbing facilities have usually a capacity ranging from 3 to 20 tons operating 50 to 100 cycles per hour. Lifting heights may be 30 meters or more.\r\nJib crane used in ship yards for lifting heavy machinery and equipment, weighing 100 to 300 tons, are usually mounted on pontoons. Frequently these cranes are provided with two main hoisting winches which can be employed singly or together to lift a load. For handling light loads these cranes may have auxiliary arrangement.\r\n\r\nDepending on the use, jib cranes are classified into a number of varieties, primarily on the basis of their mountings. The foot is kept on the pushing rod; the push button is activated automatically. The main supply 230V A.C is given to the single phase induction motor. The motor is running its normal speed. The motor pulley is already connected to the main shaft pulley with the help of belt drive. The main shaft is rotating according to the speed\r\nof the motor and pulley dimension.\r\nThe several numbers of brushes are mounted on the main shaft. The brushes are rotated due to the rotation of the main shaft. This brushes cleaning the dust in the foot or shoes. After cleaning the dust in the foot, the foot was removed from the machine.
